1. Favorite memories from April
Albany Restaurant Week (until I thought I had lost my ID for like two weeks); Line Dancing class; participating in the first downtown business association meeting; making a glitter-tastic card for the wedding of a friend and former boss; watching March Madness come to an end with the Final Four.
2. What I like about flying
Flying usually means I’m going far away and that means a change of pace and something new.
3. What I dislike about flying
Everything involved that is not actually while up in the air; anticipation of who you are going to get sitting next to you.
4. How I define “Treat Yo Self”
Usually little splurges on things I secretly want to do more often (manis/pedis) but am too cheap to do to them all the time. And it is usually doing something that normally I’d have some sort of guilt over but don’t under this heading.
5. What makes me laugh
Wit. Retelling of a good story with friends that gets funnier with each telling for all involved.
6. Early riser or night owl
When I was younger I was more of a night owl. Now I’m more of an early riser.
7. My favorite part of travel
Taking in a new view, be it a landscape or cityscape
8. My favorite outdoor market
I actually haven’t been to many. The largest one was in Moscow. I never really took the opportunity to check out Borough Market, which is on the to-do list for the next trip to London.
9. What I can see from where I am
My desk faces a yellow wall so I can see that wall, which has 4 National Park Service posters from an old calendar and in the center is favorite travel poster seen below – again from an old travel calendar.
10. How I spent the weekend
At Anna and Anthony’s first youth soccer game of the season as coach and player, respectively. Then headed up to Vermont to my sisters for the Mother’s Day/Mom’s birthday celebrations which included a trip to the Shelburne Vineyard, the Bearded Frog and Leunig’s Bistro. Upon our return, it was the opening weekend of a local homemade ice cream shop.
11. My to-do list for today
Decide if I am going to swim today.
12. I wish I could
Have more long weekends to get away
13. Best drink I’ve had abroad
My first Kilkenny beer
14. My longest flight
US to Japan. My cousin was there teaching English and my Aunt, my cousin’s grandmother and I went to visit. Another place I never thought I’d go to. It was awesome.
15. I love where I live because
I often forget but its location. It is 4 hours and under from Boston, NYC, Buffalo, and Montreal. The Adirondacks are gorgeous and accessible.
16. (3 Year Anniversary, celebrated as seen in the feature image)Something I never want to do
Bungee jump
17. My favorite sound
Thunder storms
18. Road trips I want to do
Pacific Northwest; Route 66; Southeastern US; Across Canada
19. My favorite TV show
Very tough question. Probably the original Beverly Hills, 90210.
20. Favorite travel planning resource
Is the Internet too vague a response?
21. When I fall asleep at night…
It is usually with my nose in a book.
22. My perfect climate is…
It definitely needs to experience all four seasons. But only for their 3 designated months each i.e. Fall – September, October, November; Winter – December thru Feb, etc.
23. The weather today
Low 80s, breezy and low humidity
24. My favorite word
This is something I’ve never really thought about. I would think I’d come up with a work I like to say and another for the way it looks. Scheisse is something I like to say. I like the sound of it.
25. My funniest language fail
Hasn’t happened yet.
26. What I collect on my journeys
Postcards and magnets
27. What I’m reading right now
Notes from a Small Island by Bill Bryson
28. My first time abroad
I’m not sure where and when my first trip abroad was. We lived within half a day’s drive of Montreal and we may have gone there. Or it was the time we went to Tijuana, Mexico for a day while out visiting friends in LA when I was a pre-teen.I remember eating lunch and buying three big paper flowers.
I wrote about my first European trip here.
29. Food I’d never try
Beetles, spiders, small things with crunchy exoskeletons or things that were alive or are alive that are the above or chewy or the consistency of paté.
30. Favorite airport
Detroit. Here’s why. When wanting to avoid O’Hare for my layover when traveling between Wisconsin and New York, Detroit was my safe haven a number of times. It also made me feel that if I got stuck, I’d be at least half way home. I also like the colorful walkway and tram.
31. What I’m looking forward to next month
My 35th birthday
Small Planet Studio‘s #GlobalYou365 Challenge was created as a “reflective challenge for global adventurers in re-entry” to aid travelers navigating the often choppy waters of returning home from abroad. This Challenge consists of a question a day and is a tool that can be used to help you create a lifestyle that accommodates both your abroad self and home self. Usually it is used for those coming home, but I sought to use the Challenge in reverse, as a great opportunity to reconnect with my traveling self to create a more global lifestyle today. You too can take the challenge by clicking here.
